For vacation this year we went to Viriginia. I had a class that I took at Liberty University to finish up my masters degree (Woo-Hoo!) While I was in class, Janna & the kids stayed with her sister. After my class was over we got to participate in the patriotic musical at their church. That was fun! Here's a pic of us after church on July 1st.
Then both families headed to DC for 3 days of sightseeing together! Boy, was that a blast! Janna & I have been there before, but the kids haven't. And it was fun to go with Amanda & her family! Here are the kids with their cousins in the Lincoln Memorial.
We visited Arlington National Cemetary. Of course, if you're ever in D.C. (which I think every American ought to do at least once!) you HAVE to see the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers. It's always impressive!
If you want to learn more about the soldiers that guard the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers visit:
That evening we went to China Town to eat. We wanted to eat some authentic Chinese, but we decided against it because we were having a hard time finding a place where we thought the kids would eat! But it was fun seeing the sights there!
We also visited the Air & Space Museum. Currently the Air & Space is hosting a display of items that are normally found in the American History Museum while it's under renovation. The boys enjoyed seeing R2D2 & C-3PO from Star Wars! We also saw Dorothy's red slippers & the Scarecrow, President Lincoln's hat, Kermit the frog, the sign from M.A.S.H (you know the one that pointed to different towns), Archie Bunker's chair & more!
Saw the Marine monument that is the reenactment of the raising of the flag at Iwo-Jima.
A new place for Janna & I to visit was the Roosevelt Memorial. It was nice! It was on Teddy Roosevelt Island. On our way to the island it started raining! We were on a walking path that was in the middle of the woods, so we got under some trees & tried to wait out the rain. We had a picnic while we were waiting. The rain kept coming! And we were getting dripped on pretty bad. We were about half-way there so we decided to keep going even in the rain! It was fun! And it was worth the trip! The memorial was nice & peaceful.
Another special treat was going to the Independence Day parade! We found out that the band from Springdale, AR was in the parade! That was cool to see! The following pics were all taken by Josh. He got a camera with his birthday money. He took some great pics!
July 4 is also Philippine-American Friendship Day. There was an entry in the parade to celebrate that also.
He got a little sneaky here! I didn't realize he took this until after we got home & I was looking through his pics!
